About

Aleksandra Durin is a young and promising soprano whose performances have taken her to renowned national and international venues from New York City to St. Petersburg in works ranging from Purcell and Mozart, to contemporary.

Recent roles include Der Trommler (Der Kaiser von  Atlantis), First Conversa (Suor Angelica), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Marcellina and understudy for  Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Bobilicha (The Snow Maiden), and scene work as Titania (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Poppea (Agrippina), and Périchole (La Périchole). Eager to challenge herself and explore contemporary works, she has performed in recitals of new music. Recent performances of contemporary chamber music include Since 1500 by  Matthew Schickele. In addition, she has portrayed the role of Mother in a chamber opera by Thomas  Pasatieri entitled The Women and the role of Elsie in a cantata for ladies’ voices by Battison Haynes entitled A Sea Dream.  

In May 2021, Aleksandra received an Outstanding Graduate Performance Award from Montclair State University and was a recipient of the Thorne/Tanabe Scholarship while at the Vancouver Academy of Music. She also won 2nd and 3rd place on two occasions at the “Lazar Jovanovic International Voice Competition” in Belgrade, Serbia.

She has appeared as a soloist in Kaleidoscope and with the Montclair  State University Singers in Messiah Mosaic in 2020, and with Montclair State University Symphonic Band in Ron Nelson’s Aspen Jubilee in November 2019, as well as with the REVOICE International Vocal  Ensemble in Vaclovas Augustinas’ Anoj Pusėj Dunojėlio in 2014.

Aleksandra holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music and a Master of Music degree from Montclair State University.

Fun Facts

In May 2020, Aleksandra was going to be a featured soloist in Fauré’s Requiem with the Montclair State University Chorale at the Alexander Kasser Theater. The concert, unfortunately, had to be postponed due to COVID-19.

She also played Ermeline in The Orchestra, a play by Jean Anouilh which she and her colleagues transformed into a musical, and Ceca in an award-winning musical Kocoperitis izvesne dame u pubertetu, which toured around Serbia and beyond. She has also appeared as Chava in the “Matchmaker” scene from Fiddler on the Roof at Manhattan School of Music.

Besides solo roles, Aleksandra has performed choral masterworks (Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Mahler’s 8th Symphony, Mozart’s Requiem, Mendelssohn’s oratorio Elijah, Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé) across Europe and North America, at prestigious venues such as the Lincoln Center with the New York Philharmonic, Newark Cathedral, and Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall at Princeton University with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Saint Petersburg Court Chapel, and the Mozarteum in Salzburg, to name a few.

In 2021, Aleksandra received an Excellence in Choir award from Montclair State University.
